“The UConn Basketball family grieves the loss of a great player and an even greater person, Stanley “Sticks” Robinson,” the program tweeted. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Stanley’s family at this difficult time.”
An Alabama native and high school All-American, the 6-foot-9 Robinson’s athleticism made an immediate impact at UConn, where he became known for his incredible dunks and helped the Huskies reach the 2009 Final Four. After averaging 14.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks as a senior, Robinson was selected in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.
Robinson never appeared in an NBA game, starting his professional career in the G-League and largely playing in South America. He most recently played in Chile.
“Just a really, really sweet kid,” former UConn coach Jim Calhoun told The Hartford Courant. “The world was harsh for him, because he was such a caring, giving person.”
