#Ura Rate Mahjong Tohai Roku Anime Announced for 2024

A TV anime adaptation of the Tohai manga, titled Tohai – Ura Rate Mahjong Tohai Roku, has been announced. It will begin airing this year.

Jun Hatori (Too Cute Crisis) is directing the series at EAST FISH STUDIO. Other main staff include Mariko Kunisawa (Berserk of Gluttony) as series composer, Sayaka Anesaki as character designer, and Yusuke Shirato and Yuki Kishida as music composers.

The plot is described as:

The series follows Kei, also known as “K of Ice,” a high school boy who frequents the underground
mahjong parlor teeming with money, women, organs and desires. Despite facing various
hardships, Kei navigates the underworld of mahjong while surviving.

The Tohai manga by Kouji Shinasaka ran in Akita Shoten’s Young Champion from 2006 to 2011. It is collected into 12 tankoubon volumes. It was later followed by Touhai: Hitobashira-hen, Touhai: Minagoroshi-hen, and the ongoing Touhai: Cold Girl — which features one of the original’s heroines, Amina, as the main protagonist — that started in 2021. There are also spin-offs.

A live-action movie was released in 2023.
