#Our opinion on “Detective Conan: The Black Submarine”

This year, the latest “Detective Conan” film is again about a confrontation with the men in black. You can find out how we liked the film “Detective Conan: The Black Submarine” here.

German trailer:

Story:

On the island of Hachijō, off the coast of Tokyo Prefecture, engineers from around the world are gathering to prepare for the commissioning of the “Pacific Buoy,” which will connect surveillance cameras from all police departments worldwide and test facial recognition software equipped with brand-new technology.

Meanwhile, Sonoko invites her friends on a trip to Hachijō to watch whales. But when Conan learns that Gin from the Black Organization murdered a Europol employee who was also involved with the Pacific Buoy, he sneaks onto a police ship and infiltrates the facility. There, preparations for full activation are in full swing until an engineer is kidnapped by the Black Organization and a USB stick with special information falls into their hands. But that’s not all: another danger rises from the depths of the ocean…

Opinion:

The film has some exciting scenes, but some of them don’t feel completely unrealistic compared to the previous films. There are various chases and excitingly staged kidnappings that happen as the story progresses step by step in the film. I particularly like that the film shows different places: Even Frankfurt am Main appears in the film!

The emotions of some characters are highlighted particularly well, which has brought so much life and depth to the film in hardly any recent film. Always accompanied by appropriate musical accompaniment, you can almost feel the sadness of some of the characters yourself and can get involved in the film even better.

However, the danger of the black organization, as we know it from the manga or the TV series, is not as extreme here as the film poster might suggest. And the presence of rum also plays a minor role. Here it feels as if there was a compulsive attempt to represent the entire organization. However, given the film’s running time, this only works to a limited extent. The focus is primarily on Kir and Vermouth, who had some strong key scenes, while Gin (the biggest character in the poster), for example, has comparatively little screen time.

Achung SPOILER in the next paragraph:

In the film itself, a new member of the black organization appears: Pinga. He is disguised as a woman and is responsible for kidnapping Ai. At first glance you can’t tell who Pinga is. Unfortunately, in the German dubbed version you notice this relatively quickly. Christian Zeiger speaks Pinga – even in disguise. And unfortunately it becomes apparent pretty quickly that there isn’t really a woman behind the facade. And that’s a real shame because such an important scene is basically spoiled itself. I don’t know if others notice this too. However, the much better alternative would have been for two different speakers to stand behind the microphone.

Otherwise, the German dubbing was once again extremely successful and all the speakers who also spoke in the most recent TV season were there again.

Conclusion:

“Detective Conan: The Black Submarine” brings the film series to a new high: exciting scenes without extreme exaggeration, new characters and an incredible amount of emotion in the latest film that should definitely be seen on the big screen. So take the chance and go see the film in the cinema today view!

Rating: 9/10
