#Ted Lasso Star Brett Goldstein Lands Multi-Year Deal With Warner Bros. TV

After a competitive bidding process, Brett Goldstein has signed an exclusive multiyear overall development deal with Warner Bros. TV. The Ted Lasso star is set to develop, create, and produce new TV projects for the Channing Dungey-led studio including potential projects for WarnerMedia’s HBO Max, other streaming services, cable, and broadcast networks.

The deal comes on top of two previous pacts he signed with the studio for his acting and writing work on the Emmy-winning comedy. Goldstein secured a raise in September for his Emmy-winning acting work as Roy Kent. His salary jumped from the $50,000-$75,000 he earned per episode for seasons one and two, to $125,000-$150,000 territory for the upcoming third cycle of the comedy. Goldstein also secured a raise for his writing services on the show.

“Much like the character Joe Gillis in Sunset Blvd, I’ve always dreamed of having my own parking space at Warners, and it’s extraordinary to see that dream come true,” Goldstein said in a release announcing the news Monday. “I do, however, hope the comparison ends there and I don’t wind up dead in a pool having been shot by an insane older movie star. As long as that doesn’t happen, I’m very excited and extremely honored to be embarking on new and exciting adventures with the excellent brothers* at Warners. (*Not all the people that work there are related. Apparently.)”

He is currently nominated for the 2022 Writers Guild Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Critics Choice Awards for his work on Season 2 of the hit Apple TV+ series.

Goldstein started out as a writer on Apple’s Ted Lasso before being brought on to portray the rough but lovable footballer Roy Kent. He also serves as a co-exec producer on the series. Goldstein is teaming up with Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence to write and executive produce Shrinking, a comedy series for Warners starring Jason Segel that earned a straight-to-series order at Apple. Additionally, with Black Mirror writer Will Bridges, Goldstein co-created and wrote the six-part anthology series Soulmates for AMC, which is based on their 2013 short film For Life.

The series premiered on AMC on 5 October 2020 and included Sarah Snook, Malin Akerman, Betsy Brandt, JJ Feild, and Charlie Heaton in the cast. Goldstein also hosts the iHeartRadio Award-nominated podcast Films To Be Buried With, which finds him in candid conversation with special guests as they discuss the films that have shaped them.
