A masked gunman opened fire at an off-duty NYPD officer who walked past him and his pals early Tuesday in the Bronx, cops said.

The male officer, who was not in uniform, parked his car and started walking when he was confronted by five or six men on Jennings Street near Longfellow Avenue in Crotona Park East around 1 a.m., according to police.

Words were exchanged and the men started throwing up gang signs, cops said.

Then, one of the men — who cops say was on a bike and wearing a mask — popped off two or three rounds at the off-duty officer, prompting him to return fire, cops said.

No one was hurt, but the officer was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center to be checked out, authorities said.

The group took off and no arrests have been made.

The incident comes amid a spate of shootings in the Big Apple.
