#Letters to the Editor — Dec. 23, 2021

The Issue: An NYPD lieutenant who received a risqué dance from a rookie officer at a holiday party.

I’m not sure how most people feel, but if police officers want to let off a little steam in a fun way, it’s fine with me (“In the line of booty,” Dec. 20).

These people put their lives on the line each and every day. Who among us should judge their frivolities?

We, as a country, have much more to concern ourselves with.

Robert Henry

Palm City, Fla.

Lt. Nick McGarry knows better than to indulge in such lapse of judgment. The rookie officer knew better than to behave in the sexually charged manner that caused this brouhaha.

A wife is publicly humiliated and embarrassed by her husband’s abysmal behavior. The leaking of the footage of the risqué lap dance was intentional and done to exact maximum harm. Mission accomplished. The leakers must be so proud of themselves.

Congratulations! You all behaved poorly and it will be forever immortalized on the Internet.

The takeaway: Think before you act. Leave the raunchy lap dances and skimpy outfits for your significant other and behind closed doors.

Christmas parties for work are not for getting your drink and twerk on. The onus is always on you.

Theresa O’Brien

Melville

I was sorry to read about Lt. McGarry getting punished for his minor act of indiscretion.

The punishment for him seems especially troubling now because it happened at a time when the assassin of Officer Irma Lozada has been let out of jail (“Killer paroled in officer’s ‘84 murder,” Dec. 20).

This is a time when all members of the NYPD should try to stick together. Therefore, punishing a dedicated lieutenant for something that is essentially harmless (and was done off-duty) seems completely senseless.

John Francis Fox

As a loyal subscriber, I was upset that you chose the cover of The Post to show one cop’s indiscretion at a Christmas party. There are plenty of more important stories than this one that may really ruin his life.

These guys are out trying to save lives at a really tough time.

The Issue: A University of Southern California student who tweeted threats of violence against Zionists.

There is something truly Orwellian about a University of Southern California student “diversity, equity and inclusion” senator calling for, in essence, Holocaust II (“USC student ‘diversity’ senator under fire for tweet threatening to kill Zionists,” Dec. 18).

It’s no less disturbing that the USC administration’s response to her tweet “I want to kill every motherf  - -  king zionist,” which could be viewed as a threat of violence against Jews, and may chill students’ free speech on campus, is to shrug its shoulders.

Would comparable threats toward other minority groups be similarly tolerated? Or are Jewish and pro-Israel students uniquely relegated to second-class status at California’s leading universities?

Stephen A. Silver

San Francisco, Calif.

More than 60 USC faculty members sent a letter to President Carol Folt, condemning her very public silence in the face of this explicit threat to every Jewish person in the USC community.

Had an identical homicidal threat been made against the black or female community, that perpetrator would have been removed from the USC campus in a nano second or sooner.

This is a perverse anti-Semitic silence that devalues Jewish lives in the USC community.

Richard Sherman

Margate, Fla.
