Sgt. Bradley Moore, 36, was completing a land navigation course Thursday when he died at the central Texas base, the Army Times reported.
“We are devastated by this tragic loss of one of our soldiers,” Texas Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Tracy Norris said in a statement. “The military is a family, and the entire Texas National Guard mourns with Sgt. Moore’s loved ones left behind.”
Further details were not provided. No foul play is suspected, but his cause of death is under investigation, state military officials said.
Moore is at least the sixth death of a member of the military associated with the base in recent months.
On June 21, authorities found the remains of Pvt. Gregory Morales, 24, in a field near the base in Killeen, about 10 months after he was last seen.
Then, the body of 26-year-old Pvt. Mejhor Morta, who was believed to have drowned, was discovered July 17 about 15 miles from the base in Stillhouse Hollow Lake.
Remains of the missing soldier, Pfc. Vanessa Guillen, were located July 1 near Leon River in Bell County, about 20 miles east of Fort Hood.
Authorities said the 20-year-old was bludgeoned to death at the base by a fellow soldier, Spc. Aaron David Robinson, 20, who later killed himself.
Spc. Francisco Gilberto Hernandezvargas, 24, was then found dead Aug. 2 after he disappeared underwater while on an inner tube at the same lake where Morta’s body was recovered.
The army ordered an independent probe of the climate at Fort Hood in the wake of Guillen’s death.
