#Man charged in shooting death of Bronx construction worker: cops

The man who allegedly gunned down a female construction worker in the Bronx earlier this week has been charged in connection to the crime, police said early Friday.

Jose Everaldo Reyes, 66, of Melrose, allegedly pumped six bullets into 52-year-old Lizbeth Mass while she was on her lunch break at City Island Avenue and City Island Road around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to cops and police sources.

He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and charged Thursday with second-degree murder, manslaughter, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He allegedly used a gun stolen from a housing cop who retired in 1988, police sources said.

Mass’ brother, Raul Mass, 43, told The Post on Thursday he heard about the shooting from a cousin, who learned about it through Lizbeth’s boyfriend, identified by police sources as Dwayne Walker.

The suspect brought Mass food in a bag shortly before the shooting.

“The guy lived around the area and he was always bringing lunch to her, and my sister is a friendly person to everybody, and he went out to her yesterday, bought her lunch,” Raul said.

When Walker showed up, Reyes “changed his look,” according to Raul.

“I think he didn’t know she had a boyfriend so when she presented them, he said hi to them and they were talking English and suddenly he started talking to my sister in Spanish,” he added.

Reyes tried to escape the scene but Mass' boyfriend, Dwayne Walker blocked him with his car.

“When the dude left, [Walker] said, ‘Be careful with him, he’s looking at me strange,’” Raul added.

Reyes, who pedaled off on his bike, returned a short time later and repeatedly fired at Mass, police sources said.

Then he allegedly tried to escape — when Walker, who was sitting in his car nearby, sped toward him and knocked him off his bike.

An on-duty, undercover IRS agent ran to the scene and handcuffed Reyes, the sources said.

“He’s crazy,” Raul said of the suspect. “You cannot be so friendly with people. If you see they’re offering you lunch, that means they’re trying to get to know you better.”

Lizbeth’s father, Pedro Mass, 75, called her “a good daughter.”

“Imagine how I feel, she was my only daughter,” he said. “It’s not easy to lose a daughter.”

“She was always working,” he added. “She liked her job in construction.”
