#Harrison Ford will be ‘de-aged’ in ‘Indiana Jones 5’

“Harrison Ford will be ‘de-aged’ in ‘Indiana Jones 5′”

Harrison Ford has sparked much conversation over reprising his iconic Indiana Jones role for the final time at 80 years old — but he’ll be looking a lot younger.

The fifth installment of the “Indiana Jones” franchise will open in 1944 — eight years after the events in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Four decades have past since Ford first played the legendary adventurer, and the octogenarian doesn’t exactly look the same as he did way back when — but moviegoers will still get to see Indiana Jones in his prime.

Moviegoers will see a “de-aged” Ford thanks to visual effects and ILM software, according to an upcoming issue of Empire Magazine.

Using the computer software, old footage of Ford from previous movies was matched and imposed onto new footage shot for the troubled production, which has survived several Ford stunt injuries and the death of one crew member.

“My hope is that, although it will be talked about in terms of technology, you just watch it and go, ‘Oh my God, they just found footage. This was a thing they shot 40 years ago,’” producer Kathleen Kennedy told Empire.

“We’re dropping you into an adventure, something Indy is looking for, and instantly you have that feeling, ‘I’m in an Indiana Jones movie.’”

The technology is only used in the opening sequence of the movie, which has Indiana Jones going up against Nazis in a castle.

“Then we fall out, and you find yourself in 1969,” director James Mangold said. “So that the audience doesn’t experience the change between the ‘40s and ‘60s as an intellectual conceit, but literally experiences the buccaneering spirit of those early days… and then the beginning of now.”

“I wanted the chance to dive into this kind of full-on George-and-Steven old picture and give the audience an adrenaline blast,” Mangold, who is taking over filmmaking duties from Steven Spielberg, explained.

Ford admitted that seeing a younger version of himself was “a little spooky.”

“This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it… I don’t think I even want to know how it works,” he said. “It doesn’t make me want to be young, though. I’m glad to have earned my age.”

The original jacket Ford wore in “Raiders” was also pulled out from storage and replicated for the upcoming film.

“Indiana Jones 5” is set to be released in theaters June 30, 2023. It comes 15 years after the last film of the franchise, 2008’s “The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”
