“Cyde’s sound is refreshing and exciting. Reminded me of what I grew up loving but with a sound straight outta 2030,” Drama said of Guevara in a statement. Don Cannon – who was holed up in the studio with the pair while they crafted the tape alongside legendary producer No I.D. – echoed Drama’s sentiment.
“There is no disputing the vivid songwriting that Clyde brings to the game,” Cannon said in a statement. “He will be a force in the rap game in 3,2,1.”
In an interview with Complex in 2018, Guevara attributed his unique style to doing whatever the beat tells him to do.
“Sound is evolving and I love it,” he said. “I grew up listening to a lot of different music. So my influences aren’t just from rap. That’s where the melodies come from. I usually just do what the beat tells me to. Sometimes it’s rapping, sometimes it’s more melodic. ”
DJ Drama’s link up with Clyde Guevara is the latest Gangsta Grillz offering since the DJ lent his talents to Tyler, The Creator’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST in 2020. He recently collaborated with Jim Jones for a Gangsta Grillz effort called We Set The Trends, the pair’s first tape together since 2006’s The Seven Day Theory. The mixtape features appearances from Dave East, Fivio Foreign, Maino, Fabolous, Doe Boy, Giggs and more.
