#T-Pain Says ‘Racism’ Made Him Stop Taking Credit For Country Songs

T-Pain is no stranger to exploring genres other than rap and Hip Hop, though he does maintain anonymity when it comes to working on country music.

In a video uploaded to Instagram on Tuesday (January 30), the Florida native talked about how great art exists within and beyond his field of expertise, saying: “Good music is good music. I don’t give a fuck where it come from or what style it come in. All the people I know feel like it’s not cool to listen to other genres of music.”

He then singled out one category, adding: “Country music is where I get all my harmonies. Country and gospel music — that’s where all my harmonies come from.

“I done wrote a lot of country songs. Stopped taking credit for it because as cool as it is to see your name in those credits and shit like that, the racism that comes after it is just like — I’ll just take the check. Don’t put me on that shit; I’ll just take the check, bro.”

The 39-year-old rapper and singer isn’t the only person in his space to have an affinity with country music. Last year, Gucci Mane publicly showed interest in participating in the genre and its bustling culture.

The trap pioneer took to social media over the summer to ask his fans and followers to help him connect with Oliver Anthony, who is a well-respected artist in the country music domain.

“Aye fam I need y’all help on this one I’m trying sign these guys as my first country artists to 1017!!! I need the info asap,” he wrote in the caption of the since-deleted Instagram post.

Upon seeing the Atlanta superstar talk about taking part in his craft, even singer Jake Owen hopped into the comment section and wrote: “Let’s Jam.”

Fans had plenty of questions about the opportunity as well, with one asking: “Will he get a million dollars and an iced out 1017 chain as well?” while another joked: “An iced out John Deer Tractor chain is gonna go crazy!”
