SZA Admits She Owes Beyoncé Money – But Thankfully Won't Have To Pay Up

SZA is admitting that she technically owes Beyoncé a pretty penny – but generous Bey hasn’t come to collect a single dollar.

The title track of SZA’s 2022 album SOS features an interpolation of Bey’s 2006’s Dreamgirls cut, “Listen.” This normally would require quite a hefty fee, but apparently not for the New Jersey native.

In the comments section of an Instagram reel joking about the large amount number of writers credited on many of Bey’s songs, SZA wrote:  “I literally owe her half my publishing off interpolation alone on SOS and she never pressed me lmao. a generous QUEEN.”

Last year, SZA offered up her thanks and appreciation to Beyoncé for a sweet post-Grammy gift.

The “Kill Bill” singer took home three awards at the 2024 Grammys: Best R&B Song for “Snooze,” Best Progressive R&B Album for SOS and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Ghost in the Machine” with Phoebe Bridgers.

SZA took to Instagram to share a photo of a bouquet she received from Bey in honor of her showing at the awards show.

The note from the “Irreplaceable” singer read: “I’m so happy for you beautiful! Watching you grow and watching you win is an honor. Sending you a huge congrats talented queen. All my love and respect, B.”

SZA reacted to Beyoncé’s gift on stories, writing: “Thank you for seeing me before anyone else saw me. Thank you for making me feel valuable when I was the tiniest in the room. Thank you for shining your light on me and pouring into me with Goddess level kindness. May God continue to protect and bless you queen [star emoji, orange heart emoji, honey pot emoji]”

She also previously gushed over her Bey fandom with Lizzo on an Instagram Live.

Lizzo revealed she told Bey she would be seeing her perform on herRenaissance Tour three different times, which left SZA in disbelief.

“I saw ‘Formation’ twice,” Lizzo said. “I went opening night ’cause it was on my birthday, then I saw her in L.A.”

SZA added: “The only time I seen Beyoncé perform was at Coachella, and it was fucking crazy.”

Lizzo then dropped the bombshell that she’s seen Beyoncé perform an insane 11 times, although that included concerts with Destiny’s Child. Regardless, SZA couldn’t believe Lizzo has seen the Queen live that many times.

“You making it seem like it’s ok to fight for these tickets now,” SZA said. “I’m going to fight for them. It was like taboo trying to fight for them because everyone was trying to get them.”

She added: “I don’t give a fuck, I’m getting tickets. I’m a fan, I deserve. Fuck y’all, I deserve.”
