#Sword Art Online Progressive Takes #1 Spot At Japanese Box Office

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night took the top spot at the Japanese box office over the weekend, beating films like No Time to Die and Dune. The movie debuted on October 30 and took in 349 million yen (~US$3,055,547.35). 

Aria of a Starless Night is inspired by one of the stories from the Sword Art Online: Progressive light novels’ first volume, but features an original character and a focus on series heroine Asuna. The Progressive series expands on the “Aincrad Arc” of the original and still ongoing Sword Art Online series. 

Other anime movies that featured in the weekend top 10 include Tropical-Rouge! PreCure Yuki no Princess to Kiseki no Yubiwa! and The Laws of the Universe – The Age of Elohim. The movies came in 4th and 5th respectively.

Tropical-Rouge! PreCure Yuki no Princess to Kiseki no Yubiwa!, which debuted on October 23, is the latest movie in the long-running Pretty Cure franchise. It stars the girls of 2021’s Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure and also features appearances from 2010’s Heartcatch PreCure!.

Meanwhile, The Laws of the Universe – The Age of Elohim is the latest in a series of science fiction movies with ties to the controversial Happy Science religious organization. It debuted on October 8.
