On Monday (April 12), a post about the fictional purchase landed on the Instagram page of @chakabars who left his followers under the impression the billionaire couple was getting involved. Swizz Beatz quickly hopped in the comment section to dispel the rumors with, “Not True King.”

The Simmons family then issued a statement to Billboard, further putting the chatter to rest.
“There have been a few rumors following our loved one, Earl Simmons’, passing that we’d like to clear up,” the statement read. “No one has bought Earl’s masters. Additionally, we are not selling any merch or raising money for Earl’s funeral. If anyone is requesting for money for his funeral please be aware the person is a scammer. We will keep the public posted on funeral/memorial service arrangements.”
While it’s unclear who actually owns DMX’s masters at this time – including his platinum-selling albums It’s Dark & Hell Is Hot and Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood — the late legend did most of his work with Def Jam Recordings. In fact, he had just finished an album for Def Jam and Ruff Ryders not long before his death.
The highly anticipated project is expected to feature an all-star roster with the likes of Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, the late Pop Smoke, Griselda, U2’s Bono, The LOX and more.
DMX died at White Plains Hospital in New York on April 9 following a massive heart attack. He was 50 years old.
