SWAT team part of police response as Boulder, Colo., off-campus party devolves into violence and property damage

Campus alert system at one point, reportedly inadvertently, instructed message recipients to ‘RUN HIDE FIGHT’

An off-campus party at the University of Colorado in Boulder lasted from the daytime hours well into Saturday evening, resulting in a police response reportedly including a municipal SWAT team, before a crowd estimated as high as 800 people was dispersed.

Local media accounts noted that the crowd, believed to comprise mostly students at the state’s flagship university, flouted social distancing and face masking.

Police reportedly identified “significant” property damage and were reviewing video of the event, including social-media posts, with the intent of identifying and charging participants, with an armored police vehicle and a fire truck described as having incurred “heavy damage.”

Three municipal police officers were described as having been assaulted with bricks and rocks hurled by members of the crowd.

The local NBC affiliate reported that the university’s campuswide alert system at one point, reportedly inadvertently, instructed recipients to “RUN HIDE FIGHT.”
