#Summer 2023 TV Anime Liar Liar Announces Theme Song Performers

The official Twitter for the forthcoming TV anime adaptation of Haruki Kuou’s romantic comedy light novel series Liar Liar announced its opening and ending theme song performers today.

The opening theme song “LIES GOES ON” is sung by anisong singer May’n, best known as the singing voice of Sheryl Nome in the Macross Frontier anime franchise. The lyrics are written by herself.

Message from May’n:

Although at first I wondered what kind of song I could deliver on the theme of lies, as soon as I read “Liar Liar,” the title, “LIES GOES ON,” came to my mind. I admit the rightness of “Don’t lie,” but I think that sometimes lies are necessary to motivate oneself. I also think it is a feeling that is more necessary at important times. If there is something you want to become, if you have something you want to achieve, then you should make the “lie” you set up as an ideal come true. I wrote and sang this song with all my heart!

Meanwhile, the ending theme song “faky merry game” is performed by six-member voice actress unit SMILE PRINCESS. One of its members, Yurika Moriyama, is also cast as one of the anime’s main characters, Tsumugi Shiina.

The unit was originally formed by the seven main voice actresses of the PuraOre! ~Pride of Orange~ anime series in 2020. But as reported, one of its founding members, Riku Masuda, who voiced the protagonist character Manaka Mizusawa in the anime, left the unit and the role as of March 31, and the remaining memebrs have continued to perform as a six-member unit.

We, SMILE PRINCESS, will be in charge of the ending theme song for the TV anime “Liar Liar”. While the melody of “fakey merry game” is light and cute, the lyrics are filled with words that remind us of a girl who tries to win a game aggressively. It is a song that links to the worldview of “Liar Liar.” We hope you will enjoy listening to the song along with the anime!

Liar Liar is being directed by Naoki Matsuura (Black Clover episode director) and Satoru Ohno at studio GEEKTOYS, with series composition written by Momoka Toyoda (My Happy Marriage) and character designs by Yumi Nakamura (Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku OVA). The series is set to premiere in July 2023.
