#Steve Rogers No Longer Believes In The American Dream In The United States Of Captain America Issue 1….And? » OmniGeekEmpire

Not gonna lie, I wasn’t going to talk about this. You know, the new issue of The United States Of Captain America, but after seeing the discourse online, I decided why not? I’ll throw my two cents in the hat!

Summary:

But instead, they find the Captains, everyday people from all walks of life who’ve taken up the mantle of Captain America to defend their communities. Christopher Cantwell and Dale Eaglesham lead a can’t-miss miniseries to celebrate Captain America’s 80th Anniversary, joined by a rotating series of creative teams to tell the stories of each new Captain—starting with Aaron Fischer, the Captain America of the railways, brought to life by Josh Trujillo and Jan Bazaldua!”

As you can tell by the summary, the premise is pretty simple enough. However, that’s not what people are focused on. It’s Steve’s new outlook on the American dream.

Steve Rogers, America’s poster boy no longer believes in the American dream. Well, to be more accurate as certain people love spinning a narrative, he no longer believes that the American dream currently represents what it was meant to be. In the first few pages, Steve monologues about the American dream and criticizes that the dream that once used to be for everyone, has somehow to no fault of anybody, alienated a huge group of Americans. His criticism is fair and doesn’t just borderline shit on the country, but looks at it from the objective and subjective viewpoint. Nevertheless, some people online found it to be a betrayal of his character.

What struck me as odd is that the same people who claim that Captain America has been “bastardized by wokeness”, have somehow forgotten (or are ignorant) to the fact that Steve has on numerous occasions questioned and challenged his own country’s politics and methods over the year. It may not be frequent but it does happen. The guy is a political icon, so there’s no way he wouldn’t speak on this. So why would this be any different? The whole point is that Steve is seeing America a little differently and questions what he’s seeing. What we should be doing is wait until this series is over to see the resolution that Steve comes to in the end.

Captain America is the embodiment of the ideals of that country, so when then said country starts drifting away from those ideals, wouldn’t it make sense that the guy who’s basically walking propaganda calls it out? I dunno, The United States Of Captain America Issue 1 wasn’t bad, few cringy moments yeah but overall a decent enough read. This is what I was warning about in my anti-sjw blog. I read it but didn’t see where Captain America attacked his country. Or where the “anti-America” sentiments are? I dunno, that’s my two cents anyway, let me know what you think of this!
