Former HR boss Melissa Rolfe was told the day before her cop stepson shot Brooks dead in June that she was under investigation for complaints of creating an “uncomfortable and hostile working environment,” according to the lawsuit filed late Tuesday.
She had called employees at Equity Prime Mortgage “savages,” “dingbats” and “f–king bitches,” and claimed one was hired because of her “big boobs” — while another “must suck d–k really good,” the lawsuit claims.
“Even worse, she engaged in blatantly racist conduct,” claims the lawsuit filed by the Atlanta-based firm in Superior Court in Fulton County.
That included telling one black staffer to “upgrade [her] standards” and stop dating black men — and calling black men “weak,” saying, “Don’t no woman want a weak man,” according to the lawsuit.
“Not surprisingly, Rolfe lost people’s confidence in her ability to perform her job as an HR Director and was fired” on June 18, the lawsuit states, accusing her of also lying about her credentials.
Rolfe then started a “smear campaign” to “launch a national media firestorm,” using social media and TV interviews to lie and say she was only fired because of her stepson getting charged with murder, the filing says.
She was supported by controversial QAnon-backing congressional candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is also named in the lawsuit.
The pair are accused of “seeking to exploit the death of Rayshard Brooks for their own personal gain.”
“The smear campaign mobilized a furious social media mob and prompted death threats, a boycott, and enormous reputational and financial harm to [Equity Prime Mortgage],” the firm said in the lawsuit.
The pair “knew that their smear campaign was based on a lie, but they intentionally disregarded the truth to capitalize on national attention related to Rayshard Brooks’s death,” the lawsuit claims.
Equity is suing Rolfe and Greene’s congressional campaign for defamation and for false light invasion of privacy and is seeking damages and attorney’s fees.
“We were targeted with death threats, hate mail, and a boycott because of a national media firestorm based on statements by Marjorie Greene’s campaign and Melissa Rolfe,” said the company’s CEO, Eddy Perez.
“We are committed to setting the record straight and defending our good name.”
