After Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship on Sunday, Curry found a way into his press conference and jokingly offered to serve as the new young star’s caddie in his time off.
“I’m free for the next three months if you need a caddie or replacement,” Curry said. “J.J. [Jakovac] is a great guy, but if you need me, I’m available.”
“Perfect, perfect,” Morikawa laughed. “I can’t wait. I want to see your game.”
The 23-year-old Morikawa, who admitted he is not a Warriors fan because he is “an L.A. boy at heart,” captured his first major championship after shooting a 6-under in the final round to separate himself from the pack finish at 13-under.
Curry, meanwhile, is a big golfer when he’s not staring for the Warriors and has played on the Korn Ferry Tour. With the PGA Championship being played at Harding Park in San Francisco, and the Warriors not in the NBA’s bubble, Curry stopped by to watch the tournament and made a cameo as a reporter, identifying himself as “Stephen Curry with Underrated Media — working title, just started about an hour ago.” He asked Morikawa if he watched the leaderboard while playing the back nine.
“I do look at leaderboards,” Morikawa said. “I want to know where I’m at. Why not? I don’t think it affects me.”
