#Japan Box Office: Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Stays at No1 for Three Consecutive Weeks

In its third weekend, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time earned 528 million yen (4.8 million USD) on 330,000 admissions. It was 23 percent down from the previous weekend, but the film has still kept its No.1 spot for three consecutive weeks, beating the live-action film adaptation of Capcom’s popular game series Monster Hunter that had its opening weekend in Japan.

The 155-minute film has had a total of 3.96 million audiences and grossed 6.07 billion yen (55.27 million USD), surpassing the total domestic gross of the third film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (5.3 billion yen) in 2012, and becoming the top-grossing film in the franchise. However, the current general consensus is that it will be difficult for the film to reach the ten billion yen mark.

Surprisingly, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train jumped up to third from the previous weekend’s seventh in its 24th weekend. The film’s cumulative box office gross in Japan has reached 39 billion yen (355 million USD), only one billion yen is needed to reach the historic 40 billion yen milestone.

Following the very successful first two chapters in December 2017 and June 2019, the much-awaited 48-minute third chapter of the six-part OVA series Girls und Panzer das Finale was released in 64 theaters on March 26, then made its sixth-place debut. The latest chapter was received favorably by audiences, ranking No.1 in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with a 4.17 approval rating based on 284 reviews.

Eiga Healin’ Good PreCure Yume no Machi de Kyun! tto GoGo! Daihenshin!!, the 28th feature film in the PreCure franchise, dropped to eighth in its second weekend.
