#Legendary Films Taps Kingdom Director Shinsuke Sato for Live-Action My Hero Academia Film

Announced way back in October of 2018, Legendary Films’ live-action adaptation of Kohei Horikoshi’s smash-hit superhero manga and anime, My Hero Academia, now has a director attached: Shinsuke Sato, who has previously worked on live action film adaptations of series such as Gantz, I Am a Hero, Death Note, Bleach, Inuyashiki, Kingdom, and Alice in Borderland.

The upcoming project marks Sato’s English-language film debut. So far, no further details (such as the release date) have yet been revealed. Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter head the My Hero Academia live-action fllm project for Legendary Films, while Ryosuke Yoritomi represents Shueisha, the publishers of the original manga, on the project.

Crunchyroll currently streams the My Hero Academia TV anime, which features animation production by BONES, and describes the story of the series as follows:

Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies.
