We all talk a lot about video games, Esports, and all the hype around them but today we are going to talk about something else. Any industry is defined by the product that they offer but the organizations behind those products are what run that industry. The same applies to the gaming industry at once such a big player in the industry is Sony. From making gaming consoles and equipment to developing and publishing games, Sony does everything. And it doesn’t just do it but is also one of the best at what it does. So, today we are going to talk about how Sony PlayStation has grown exponentially, even during the pandemic.
20% Bigger

Sony Playstation was already such a big deal in the market and now it’s even bigger. Reports show that Sony PlayStation’s workforce has grown by a humongous 20% in the past year. The majority of the growth that Sony has seen is all thanks to its many acquisitions over the course of the pandemic.
We all know how the majority of the brands and products are suffering in the pandemic. This also includes Sony’s very own PS5, which is facing an immense lack of supply due to material shortages. But even after all that Sony has not only managed to stay strong but also grow at the same time.
There is no denying the fact that Sony has emerged as a major competitor to brands like Microsoft and Nintendo. Games like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn as well as high in demand consoles like PS 4 pro and PS5, have pushed Sony a great deal. According to the last quarter’s numbers, it has shipped about 3.3 million PS5 consoles. This pushed up the console’s lifetime sales to 13.4 million, which directly competes with the Xbox sales figures.
Acquisitions
As mentioned above, the major reason for Sony’s continuous growth is the numerous acquisitions it has done. At the beginning of the year, Playstation acquired Housemarque, the studio behind the very popular and hit game Returnal. It also acquired Nixxes Software, which is a PC porting specialist studio, in its efforts to launch PlayStation PC.
Apart from that, they also acquired Firesprite Games, the studio behind The Persistence which will help Sony in VR titles. Its most recent acquisition was Bluepoint Games which is behind several remakes and remasters of Playstation games. At this point, PlayStation Studios consists of 15 main studios and it still looking to expand as much as it can. If this continues Sony might soon become the Disney of the gaming industry and rule the market.
Well, that is how life is and that is how things are. Sony has shown that acquisitions are the way to move forward and grow. And growth is the ultimate purpose of life and everything around it.
