#Song You Need: Sun June’s aimless fallacy

Sun June’s “Get Enough” starts with a simple but impossible dream. “I wish the Beatles would get back together,” vocalist Laura Colwell sings, ignoring the fates of John Lennon and George Harrison. From there it’s as if the Fab Four not reuniting starts to color her outlook on life, leading to sleepless nights and a heaviness that hangs in the Texas sky above her. This mania is, of course, a metaphor for the harsh realities of adult life where people pleasing somehow still leads to loneliness and a lifetime’s worth of resolve slowly depletes with every passing day. It’s to their credit that Sun June make this all sound so pleasant. “Get Enough” ambles by with a softness that cushions the weight coming from above, slowly ambling toward a sprint finish. The song will appear on the band’s upcoming album Bad Dream Jaguar, due out on October 20. The Beatles won’t be back together by then, but at least Sun June are here to take the edge off of life’s sharp edges.
