“Song You Need: Rauw Alejandro brings the house down on “Lokera””

Lyanno and Brray help turn the reggaeton star’s new single all the way to 11.

The FADER’s “Songs You Need” are the tracks we can’t stop playing. Check back every day for new music and follow along on our Spotify playlist.

When you think of a summer-defining song, what immediately comes to mind? For many, it’s a track that will sustain a party’s peak without descending the get-together into outright pandemonium. Rauw Alejandro’s “Lokera” is not that. From the opening notes, the sinister reggaeton tune announces its goal: to melt away inhibitions until they’re beads of sweat glistening on grinding bodies.

Unapologetic in its tribute to the pursuit of the pick-up, “Lokera” has a red-bloodiness that’s as infectious as it is unsavory. “Toy puesto pa coger una nota cabrona,” Alejandro sings, the synths ringing around him like alarms. “Explotar la cuenta y perrearme una culona.” He’s dressed to kill, eager to flaunt his cash, and ready for some quality time with a not-so-special someone. Lyanno and Brray are the perfect wingmen for the track, two artists who are equally eager to blow off an old train’s worth of steam.
