#Tonbo! & Sorairo Utility Heroines Team Up for New Collab Illustration

The main heroines of golfing TV anime series Tonbo! and Sorairo Utility have teamed up by being paired in a new collaboration illustration between the two shows. 

The illustration was released to commemorate the climactic story arc in Tonbo! season two, showcasing both Tonbo Oi and Minami Aoba. It can also be downloaded as a smartphone wallpaper on the official anime website of Tonbo! 

The second season has been airing in Japan since October 5, 2024 and has been streaming on Amazon Prime Video, like the first season. Season one aired in Japan from April 6, 2024 to June 29, 2024. The overall series is licensed for international streaming by Remow, who are also streaming select episodes on their It’s Anime YouTube channel in limited time periods. 

Amazon Prime Video also streamed an English dub of the series. 

The original manga series was written by Ken Kawasaki and illustrated by Yu Furusawa. It was first launched in Golf Digest’s Weekly Golf Digest on August 4, 2014, and has released 53 tankobon volumes as of November 2024. 

It’s Anime describes the main synopsis of Tonbo! as: 

A dramatic tale of golf and humans, set on the beautiful Tokara Islands.

Igarashi has thrown away his past and fled society, relocating to Hinoshima Island. Here, on “Japan’s last hidden paradise,” he meets Tonbo, the island’s only middle schooler. To his surprise, this girl harbors an extraordinary talent for golf!? 

This encounter marks the beginning of a significant change in their destinies.

Sorairo Utility is based on the original short anime that was storyboarded by Akira Amemiya (Gridman Universe director) and premiered on December 31, 2021 in Japan. Crunchyroll streamed the 14-minute short anime worldwide. 

The TV series version will broadcast in Japan on January 4, 2025 and will stream on HIDIVE, ADN, Aniverse, and more services. 

Pony Canyon describes the main synopsis of Sorairo Utility as: 

Minami Aoba was troubled. She had no particular strengths or things she wanted to do. Is it okay for her high school life to end as such an ordinary supporting character!? Leaving school behind, Minami searches for her own “special uniqueness.”

She stumbles upon the nearby golf practice range by chance. Approached by part-time worker Haruka Akane, Minami grasps the golf club — the “utility.” And thus, it was the encounter between Minami and golf.

Winning is not the only thing in golf! Everything related to golf is enjoyable! Together with the genius golfer Haruka and Ayaka Hoshimi, who aspires to be an influencer, they seek the moment when they can become the “protagonist”! As a super beginner, Minami swings her club once again today.
