“Seven Seas Entertainment Licenses Anti-Romance, Night of the Living Cat, & Two More Manga Titles”

Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed four new manga titles, set for release sometime later this fall and heading into 2023. All series will be released in both physical and digital formats in North American bookstores.

Their first license acquisition is the Boys Love manga series Anti-Romance by Shoko Hidaka (Blue Morning). The series is described as an engrossing tale of friends turned lovers. Hidaka first launched the manga on November 21, 2015 in RuTile magazine.

The first volume will be released in September 2022 on both print and digital formats in single volume editions. The print version of volume one will be sold as a “special edition” book with an extra art gallery of color pages. These were originally released as a separate booklet in Japan.

Anti-Romance is described by Seven Seas Entertainment as:

Suou and Ryou have been friends since childhood. The hairstylist and writer have lived together for six years now and, though they definitely aren’t dating, their close relationship is hard to define. Will they ever move beyond the nebulous territory of “more than friends” or will they keep living in a stalemate forever?

Another manga Seven Seas will publish for the first time in North America is the spooktacular horror-comedy series Night of the Living Cat. The manga is written by Hawkman and illustrated by artist Mecha-Roots. In this series, adorable feline threats begin to take over the post-apocalyptic world in a unique take of the zombie genre.

The first volume of Night of the Living Cat will be released in single volume editions on both print and digital formats. The manga was first published on October 5, 2020 in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden magazine.

The manga’s story is described as:

In the near future, a unique disease has swept across the planet: a virus that transforms humans into cats! And the horde is expanding, since if these adorable kitties snuggle with a human, the human is transformed into yet another cat. A small group of cat-loving survivors is trying to escape the madness, but how can you defend yourself against a threat you just want to cuddle and pet?! This wild new take on a post-apocalyptic survival tale will make you roll over and purr with delight!

Seven Seas Entertainment will also release the manga adaptation of the light novel series Let’s Buy the Land and Cultivate It in a Different World by writer Rokujuuyon Okazawa and artist Jun Sasameyuki. Original light novel illustrator Yuichi Murakami is also credited with original artwork. The farming life isekai story was first published on December 28, 2018 in Comic Boost magazine.

The first volume of Let’s Buy the Land and Cultivate It in a Different World will be released on both digital and print formats in November 2022.

The manga series is described as:

Norio, a corporate drone in modern Japan, is summoned to a fantasy world to fight evil! But it turns out that the magical ability he got doesn’t work?! Thankfully, he has a plan B. Ask for a plot of land to cultivate a farm! To his surprise, that supposedly useless magic ability turbo charges his tools, allowing him to craft with wood like a master and plant vast fields of crops. After fishing up a mermaid wife, charming a lich, and tempting a young dragon over to his side with home cooking, there’s nothing our hero can’t do!

Onigunsou’s supernatural action manga Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari will also be published for the first time in North America. The manga was first serialized in Shueisha’s Miracle Jump magazine from April 15, 2014 to December 15, 2015 after its last issue. The series then moved to monthly Ultra Jump on January 19, 2016 where it is currently running.

The first volume will be released in single volume editions in January 2023, on both print and digital platforms. An anime television series based on the series was announced last November.

Seven Seas describes Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari as:

When spirits cross over into the human world, they can possess old objects and gain a physical form: a tsukumogami. Tsukumogami can be gentle, violent, or somewhere in-between, so the Saenome clan peacefully helps send them back to the spirit world to avoid destruction.

Kunato Hyouma is a member of the clan, but is…less than peaceful, since he holds a grudge from when a tsukumogami robbed him of something important. Afraid that Hyouma’s brash anger in dealing with these spirits will lead to supernatural catastrophes, Hyouma’s grandfather sends him to live in Kyoto with Nagatsuki Botan, an unusual young woman who actually lives with tsukumogami like family! Can Hyouma learn to control his emotions when dealing with tsukumogami, or is his own spirit doomed to be possessed with rage forever?
