#Senate Republicans advance Amy Coney Barrett confirmation vote

Senate Republicans cleared the remaining procedural hurdle on Sunday to advance Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett to a likely final confirmation vote on Monday over the objections of the Democrats.

The vote was 51-48 to end the filibuster.

Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) voted with the Democrats on Sunday.

But Murkowski said over the weekend that she now supports Barrett, despite initially opposing her nomination because it came too close to the election.

Collins, who is caught up in a tough re-election fight, is expected to be the lone GOP holdout.

Republicans control the chamber 53-47.

Democrats argued against President Trump selecting a nominee to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg until after the Nov. 3 election.

If confirmed, Barrett would become Trump’s third Supreme Court justice after Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
