#Urika’s Bedroom shares “Junkie,” a woozy ballad for early mornings

urika’s bedroom introduces himself with “junkie,” a bare-bones song where hushed vocals, carefully strummed guitar, and momentary glitches of distortion are knitted together to create something hypnotic and comforting. Like many lo-fi songwriters currently operating in this space, the influence of Alex G can be heard throughout “junkie.” It’s there in the hum of feedback and tender vocal melodies, but “junkie” is not merely pastiche, it’s a song that sticks around long after its runtime comes to a close.
“There’s so much noise and haphazard sound around us now, grinding and seething out from this infinite array, modern chaos,” urika says in a statement to The FADER. “‘junkie’ is the mirror for that and the lucid moments that hold you still in the swarm. pure energy and the spotless mind, or somewhere in between.”
urika will be on playing live across North America from next month when he supports Youth Lagoon on his upcoming headline tour. See below for dates.
