#Scream Featurette Honors Wes Craven on Original Film’s 25th Anniversary

“#Scream Featurette Honors Wes Craven on Original Film’s 25th Anniversary”
In the video, original Scream stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox join Williamson in speaking very highly of Craven. The consensus is that not only was he a brilliant director, he was also an amazing human being behind the scenes. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo directing the new Scream, also talk about how much Craven’s influence had on the new movie, even if he wasn’t directly involved.
“We are fans on a level that is hard to express,” Gillett says. Bettinelli-Olpin adds, “Anything we got right in this movie is because of Wes Craven.”
“I had been apprehensive about doing another one without Wes, but Matt and Tyler really wanted to honor him,” Campbell also says. “It’s fun to get into it again.”
The other returning stars were similarly was leery to do another Scream without Craven. They were all swayed by the pitch that the new filmmakers had in mind, with Arquette praising the screenplay. Cox also noted, “I’ve done four Screams with Wes Craven. I was like, oh wow, what a perfect way to reinvent this movie.”
The official synopsis reads: Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Neve Campbell (“Sidney Prescott”), Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) and David Arquette (“Dewey Riley”) return to their iconic roles in Scream alongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.
James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick wrote the script. Scream is executive produced by Kevin Williamson, Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena.
It’s fun to see another Scream happen when it seemed like there was never going to be another movie made, at least not set in the original timeline with the same cast. At the same time, it’s scary that Sidney, Dewey, and Gale are all going to be present when the next Woodsboro massacre occurs, meaning one, two, or maybe all three could finally be killed after surviving Ghostface four times in the past. We should also keep in mind that one of them could possibly be the killer, as unlikely as that might sound to longtime fans. The final official poster actually says the words, “the killer is on this poster,” and the original stars are featured along with the new cast.
Scream will be released in movie theaters on Jan. 14, 2022. You can find out more at ScreamMovie.com.
