#Scott Stringer calls on Cuomo to resign

City Comptroller Scott Stringer on Sunday joined a growing number of New York politicians in calling for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign over mounting sexual harassment allegations against him.

“For the good of New Yorkers, Governor Cuomo must resign—and if he does not step down, the Legislature should swiftly begin impeachment proceedings to remove the Governor from office,” Stringer said in a statement.

Stringer’s call for the governor to step down comes after two more women over the weekend — former Cuomo staffers Karen Hinton and Ana Liss — accused the governor of inappropriate behavior.

A total of five women have now come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against Cuomo.

“Almost every day now brings with it a new report of unacceptable behavior by Governor Cuomo,” Stringer said in his statement.

“The totality and seriousness of allegations that have been made against the Governor, some of the most egregious of which have not been denied, along with the statements issued today by our legislative leaders, makes it abundantly clear that the Governor’s ability to lead during this critical moment has been fundamentally compromised,” Stringer said.

Cuomo in a Sunday briefing vowed that there was “no way” he would step down.

He has offered an apology for his improper remarks “if [his accusers] were offended,” but denied allegations of inappropriate physical contact, as alleged by four of the five women.
