“#Scarlett Johansson, Disney settle lawsuit over ‘Black Widow’”
Scarlett Johansson and Disney have settled her suit against the studio over the streaming release of her latest Marvel superhero movie “Black Widow,” the two sides announced Thursday.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Johansson and Disney vowed to continue working together in separate statements.
The actress filed suit against Disney in Los Angeles court two months ago, claiming the streaming release of the hit film deprived her of earnings and breached her contract.
The suit claimed that her contract with Disney’s Marvel Entertainment guaranteed that her blockbuster would premiere exclusively in theaters and that her salary was based largely on the box office.
But, like many movies during the pandemic, “Black Widow,” was simultaneously released in theaters and on a streaming platform.
“I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney,” Johansson said in her statement.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration.”
Alan Bergman, chairman of Disney Studios Content, said he is “pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement.”
