Sarah Palin warned Sen. Kamala Harris to “trust no one new” and “don’t get muzzled” as Joe Biden’s vice presidential pick.

In an Instagram post published Tuesday evening, Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, congratulated Harris (D-Calif.) on being tapped by presumptive Democratic nominee Biden to join the ticket.

“Congrats to the democrat [sic] VP pick,” she wrote, “Climb upon Geraldine Ferraro’s and my shoulders, and from the most amazing view in your life consider lessons we learned.” Rep. Ferraro (D-NY) was the first-ever female VP pick in 1984, selected by Walter Mondale. The ticket lost badly.

Palin, who also served as the former governor of Alaska, then offered Harris six pieces of advice.

First and foremost, according to former Sen. John McCain’s running mate, “out of the chute trust no one new.”

“[D]on’t get muzzled — connect with media and voters in your own unique way. Some yahoos running campaigns will suffocate you with their own self-centered agenda so remember YOU were chosen for who YOU are,” she wrote, “So stay connected with America as you smile and ignore deceptive “handlers” trying to change you”

In 2008, Palin faced off with Biden in the vice presidential contest. The two debated once.

During that campaign cycle, Palin and McCain’s relationship grew strained as Palin’s woeful preparedness for media appearances began to create problems for the ticket.

Before his death, the Arizona Republican wrote in his book that he regretted picking Palin as his running mate over Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), a longtime friend and confidante of the staunch moderate.

In her post, Palin went on to coach Harris on some “fun terms you may learn” on the campaign trail, despite the senator having campaigned nationally for much of 2019.

One of them was “OTR,” or orchestrated campaign stop, which, according to Palin, is an event that is made to look as if it was casual and unplanned.

“I’d remembered not packing my running shoes, they turned it into a whole campaign stop with media detailing my every move trying on shoes,” she quipped.

Palin went on to advise Harris to not “forget the women who came before you.”

In a lighthearted moment, Palin also reminded the former prosecutor to enjoy the wild ride of campaigning.

“[H]ave fun! This IS the greatest country in the world and hopefully you’ll be blessed beyond belief, like I was, with meeting new people from all walks of life and see just how great it is!” she wrote.
