“Saku Sakamoto’s The Feast of Amrita Anime Film Premieres May 26, Unveils Voice Cast Members”

Saku Sakamoto’s The Feast of Amrita anime film is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on May 26, 2023. The film is a prequel spinoff to his 2018 anime horror film Aragne: Sign of Vermilion

The Feast of Amrita will be screened at Cine Libre Ikebukuro in Tokyo and at Cine Libre Umeda in Osaka on May 26, 2022. It was originally planned to be released in 2021, but was posted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main voice cast will consist of Maaya Uchida as the protagonist Tamahi, Mamiko Noto as Tamahi’s friend Aki, and MoeMi as Yuu — a classmate of Tamahi.

The production team for The Feast of Amrita consists solely of Sakamoto, who is credited with the original concept. He is also producing, directing, writing, animating, and composing the musical score for the anime film. Sakamoto also handled the animation production for Aragne: Sign of Vermilion, with supervision and production assistance from Osamu Fukutani

Sakamoto previously ran a successful crowdfunding campaign to fund the production of Aragne: Sign of Vermilion on the Japanese crowdfunding platform Makuake. The project met its 2 million yen (about US$13,542) goal in March 2017. A successful Kickstarter campaign was subsequently launched from September to October 2017 to fund an English translation and to screen the film at various animation festivals. It premiered at the 2018 Fantasia Festival in Montreal, Canada in July 2018.

Production and distribution company zelicofilm describes the film’s synopsis as:

Tamahi, a high school girl, is bothered by strange auditory hallucinations and a ringing in her ears.

One summer day when Tamahi and her friends are coming home from school, they witness someone jumping from a condominium building.

They rush to the place where the person fell, but they are nowhere to be seen.

Tamahi, who is dumbfounded, experiences another auditory hallucination. Her friends hear it as well.

Before long, an odd space appears before Tamahi’s eyes.

The auditory hallucination increases in intensity. Tamahi and her friends struggle to escape that place while suffering from the auditory hallucination… However…

Sentai Filmworks also licensed the Aragne: Sign of Vermilion film for its HIDIVE anime streaming service in March 2020.
