The world mourned the loss of pioneering feminist, outstanding legal scholar and historic Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Friday night.

The Brooklyn-born Justice — only the second woman appointed to the bench — died Friday at age 87 due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer, the Supreme Court announced.

“Our nation has lost a jurist of historic stature,” Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., said of Ginsburg. “We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague.”

Ginsburg was praised from the left as a firebrand who developed a cult following over her 25 years on the bench.

“Justice Ginsburg paved the way for so many women, including me. There will never be another like her. Thank you RBG,” Hillary Clinton posted to Twitter.

Though Americans from both sides of the political spectrum honored her for breaking through glass ceilings as she rose in power.

“Rest in peace Ruth Bader Ginsburg – a true legend, an iconoclast, a glass ceiling breaker, and a feminist icon,” wrote Meghan McCain. “She changed the world in so many incredible ways. Prayers, love and strength to her family during this dark time. I hope you have fun with Antonin Scalia in heaven…”

Minnesota Senator and one-time 2020 presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar added Ginsburg was “an icon. A hero. A woman way ahead of her time.”

Even some of her fiercest opponents paid their respects.

“Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a credit to the Court,” former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani posted on Twitter. “I disagreed with many of her decisions but they were all well reasoned and well-argued. She was a close friend of her ideological opposite, Justice Scalia. They both loved opera, law and the U.S.A. May She Rest In Peace”

William Barr, the conservative US Attorney General, said Ginsburg was “renowned among people of all backgrounds.”

“She was an incisive questioner, a clear and careful writer, and a model of dignity and civility,” Barr said in a statement. “In the process, Justice Ginsburg served as an inspiration to this office, the Supreme Court bar, and far beyond.”

All four former presidents sent their condolences and praise.

President Obama urged a slow process to replace Ginsburg, whom he called “a relentless litigator and an incisive jurist.”

George W. Bush said she “inspired more than one generation of women and girls.”

“Justice Ginsburg loved our country and the law,” he said in a statement. “Laura and I are fortunate to have known this smart and humorous trailblazer, and we send our condolences to the Ginsburg family.”

Bill Clinton tweeted, “We have lost one of the most extraordinary Justices ever to serve on the Supreme Court.

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life and landmark opinions moved us closer to a more perfect union. And her powerful dissents reminded us that we walk away from our Constitution’s promise at our peril.”

And Jimmy Carter said he was proud to have appointed her to the U.S. Court of Appeals back in 1980.

“A powerful legal mind and a staunch advocate for gender equality, she has been a beacon of justice during her long and remarkable career,” he said.

Before she became known as the “Notorious RBG” for her sharp dissents, Ginsburg was the first tenured woman professor at Rutgers School of Law in Newark, where she began building her career as a champion of gender equality.

Comedian Mindy Kaling said Ginsburg was the role model for her daughter and children everywhere.

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the kind of scholar and patriot you get excited about explaining to your kids. The kind of person who you say ‘who knows, one day you could be HER,’” Kaling said. “I hope you rest well, RBG, you must have been tired from changing the world.”

Other stars also weighed in.

“Thank you for changing history,” tweeted pop star Mariah Carey. “We will never let it be undone. RIP RBG.”

Actress Alyssa Milano called Ginsburg her “hero.”

“I never got to meet her. But I loved her and the way she moved through this world with such strength and grace and conviction,” she wrote.

And Barbra Streisand mourned the passing of a fellow Brooklyn Icon.

“She was an inspiration to legal scholars and women,” the singer wrote. “As for her replacement, Mitch McConnell set the precedent: no nominees even get a hearing this close to an election.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook said Ginsburg left an indelible mark on American history after arguing six landmark cases and prevailing victorious in five of them.

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg spent her life in pursuit of an equal world,” Cook wrote. “She fought for the unheard, and through her decisions, she changed the course of American history. We can never repay what she has given us, but we all can honor her legacy by working toward true equality, together.”

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders called Ginsburg “one of the great justices in modern American history.”

“The passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a tremendous loss to our country,” Sanders tweeted. “She was an extraordinary champion of justice and equal rights, and will be remembered as one of the great justices in modern American history.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Ginsburg’s passing an “incalculable loss for our democracy.”

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg embodied justice, brilliance and goodness, the California representative wrote. “Her passing is an incalculable loss for our democracy and for all who sacrifice and strive to build a better future for our children.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said New York’s “heart breaks” over the news.

“During her extraordinary career, this Brooklyn native broke barriers & the letters RBG took on new meaning—as battle cry & inspiration,” he tweeted.
