“#Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Grill revamping under Jean-Georges”
Robert De Niro’s famed Tribeca Grill is getting a makeover — and a new name — courtesy of his friend and restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten, The Post has learned.
Jean-Georges will take over the operations, menu and creative vision for Tribeca Grill in a deal that is expected to be inked later this month. As part of the revamp, the 31-year-old restaurant will be renamed.
Discussions of a possible partnership began before the pandemic, according to people familiar with the matter, but were put on hold after New York’s lockdown shuttered restaurants.
Three weeks ago, the men sparked up conversations again about a culinary joint venture when they bumped into each other outside of Paris.
The pair dined at Tribeca Grill last week to hammer out the details of the restaurant deal. They’ve been “friends for a long time,” a source familiar said. The financial terms of the deal weren’t clear.

“Bob is very nostalgic and want to revitalize the place,” the person added.
The Tribeca Grill, which re-opened from its pandemic slumber three months ago, had become “long in the tooth” and is in need of of a refresh, a person close to De Niro said. And Jean-Georges — one of the world’s most famous chefs with restaurants including ABC Kitchen and Mercer Kitchen — is the man De Niro wants.

A rep for De Niro declined to comment. Jean-Georges did not respond to request for comment. It’s not clear when the restaurant will close for its refresh or when it will re-open under its new name.
Jean-Georges — who runs 40 restaurants globally — has most recently restored and operated the Tin Building in The Seaport District — a massive 53,000 square-foot food hall. And people with knowledge say he’s ready for the next challenge.
De Niro — along with his investors — owns a number of properties in the Tribeca area. Some have dubbed the actor the unofficial mayor of Tribeca.
He helped launch the Tribeca Film Center around the same time he opened Tribeca Grill. He is part owner of the Greenwich Hotel and the Locanda Verde restaurant — and has a stake in the Nobu sushi empire.
Drew Nieporent, who runs the Tribeca Grill under his Myriad Restaurant Group, will part ways with the restaurant, a source familiar with the matter said. Myriad didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
