#RNC 2020: Ivanka Trump calls her father a ‘warrior in the White House’

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and senior White House adviser, offered an intimate portrait of her father in her 2020 Republican National Convention speech, describing him as a compassionate crusader for the everyday American.

While each of Trump’s four adult children has spoken in endorsement of his re-election bid — Don Jr. on Monday, Tiffany and Eric Trump on Tuesday — none has been as intimately linked to the presidency as Ivanka.

“This evening I want to talk to you about the leader I know and the moments that I wish every American could see,” Ivanka, 38, said in a live speech from the White House South Lawn after addressing the damage caused by Hurricane Laura and offering her condolences to those affected.

“I want to tell you the story of the president who is fighting for you from dawn to midnight, when the cameras have left, the microphones are off, and the decisions really count,” she continued, before introducing him to the large crowd assembled.

The trusted adviser spoke of moments where her father rebuffed bad advice from his economic advisers, made unpopular decisions and offered a rare portrait of a man who was moved by the struggles of everyday Americans.

“I’ve been with my father and seen the pain in his eyes when he receives updates on the lives that have been stolen by this plague. I have witnessed him make some of the most difficult decisions of his life,” she said.

Ivanka recalled the moment her father also commuted Alice Johnson’s life sentence, a speaker at the final night of the GOP convention, and saw her released from prison after 22 years.

“As she ran into the arms of her family, and they celebrated a joyful reunion, my father was very quiet — I could see the emotion on his face,” she said.

“After a long silence, he looked at me and said: “Imagine how many people there are just like Alice. From that point on, he became a voice for those unfairly silenced in our prison system,” she added.

Calling Joe Biden “another empty vessel” who would give in to the whims of the Democratic Party’s fringe, Ivanka urged voters to re-elect her father.

“Now more than ever, America needs four more years of a Warrior in the White House,” she said.

In early 2017, she resigned her post with the Trump Organization to advise her father in the White House, along with her husband, Jared Kushner.

She was frequently included on international business, globe-trotting to the G20 summit, South America, Saudi Arabia and Israel, where in 2018 Ivanka — the first Jewish member of a First Family through her conversion prior to marrying Kushner — led the delegation opening the US Embassy in Jerusalem.

At home, she downplayed her sway over her father, but has nevertheless been viewed as a more liberal-minded moderating voice in the White House, and in 2018 called out the separation of children from their families at the southern border as a “low point” for the administration.

Sixteen percent of GOP voters said earlier this year that they would like to see Ivanka make her own presidential bid in 2024, but she’s indicated she might not even stick around into a potential second term for her father.
