#Rise of the Beasts Gets Pushed Back to 2023

Following the release date shake-up by Disney last month, which saw numerous Marvel movies and the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 getting release delays, today was Paramount’s turn to reshuffle their slate, first announcing the movement of their new Star Trek movie to late 2023, and for Transformers fans a big blow as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts also found itself on the move, being delayed until June 9th, 2023, about a year past its original date of June 24, 2022. The newest movie in the franchise has been getting a lot of attention during filming, with numerous photos and videos being uploaded on social media by fans, as well as the pieces of information being drip-fed through from Paramount, but we now have a long wait to see the final product arrive on screens.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Paramount is looking to build on the success of Bumblebee, which broke away from the main Transformers franchise to create a prequel to the Michael Bay movies and in the process gained a lot more praise than its predecessors managed and gave the series a new lease of life. While Optimus Prime was not the focus for the first time since the live-action franchise debuted in 2007, that is all set to change in the new movie which is set after the events of Bumblebee and will introduce the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons. The Beast Wars translation to the big screen has certainly excited Transformers fans, and director Steven Caple Jr. was happy to talk about expanding the Transformers franchise in a previous press conference.

“We wanted to expand the universe,” the filmmaker explained. “You have the Autobots and the Decepticons, and I would say my new flair to this is the Terracons. The Terracons are a new threat to Optimus Prime, and it’s something I pride myself on when entering the franchise. I’ve done Rocky with Creed, and you bring the nostalgia that fans want, but also bring something they aren’t expecting, and the Terracons are that.”

“The difference between the sort of Predacons in our film, they are more reptilian in nature. So to speak, you’ve seen a few in the other Transformers films, they’ve been like here and there, but we never got a chance to really focus in on their logo. So to speak. Their insignia, I really identify them with, to Lorenzo’s point their tribe, if you will. And so we’re really hitting that more. And then we get to see another side to them. Again, it’s all about sort of like building a backstory to these characters. That’s a little bit more than, ‘Hey, let’s take over the world. What is their personal agenda? What are the feelings behind it? And so we’ll get the seed of that. You can’t really make a movie about Beast Wars and not have the classic characters.”

While the new delay will be a disappointment to many looking forward to the movie’s arrival, it seems that we should expect to see a few more similar postponements to some of the big movies in movie theaters heading our way as studios attempt to reset their slates and put the troubles of Covid behind them once and for all.
