Rick Ross dropped a mixtape nine years ago that helped propelled him further into the spotlight. Rich Forever became one of Rick Ross’ most popular mixtapes and it has yet to hit streaming services.

The tape arrived on January 6, 2012 and boasted an assortment of guest features such as Drake, Wale, 2 Chainz, John Legend, Nas, Styles P and Pharrell just to name a few. As the tenth anniversary of the mixtape arrives next year, fans are looking for Ross to do a re-release for the project.

During his conversation with Billboard Hip Hop editor Carl Lamarre, Rick Ross spoke about Rich Forever and the story behind Def Jam dragging their feet on the release way back in 2012. According to Ross, he felt hot and wanted to give his fans another project.

“I remember being over in London on tour, and I had released the album before that project, and I had put Rich Forever together in like three months,” Ross said. “I called Def Jam and told them I’m ready to drop another project, and they were like ‘Calm down, you tripping.’ I’m like, ‘Nah, fuck that I ain’t calming down. I got this heat done.’ I basically gave them another call a week later saying ‘Are y’all ready or y’all not?’ They were moving slow so I just dropped the whole mixtape with everyone on the project.”

Ross continued, “It was one of them things that wasn’t about the money. It was about putting the music on the streets and finally being in the position where I have fans in Germany and London and Paris that’s waiting for this Rozay music. This is the position I’ve been waiting on damn near my whole life. I’m not waiting for the record label, I’m going to move, so I pushed the button and dropped it myself.”

Rick Ross went on to explain he hoped to get the mixtape on streaming soon as he looked at his publicist to make a note of it. While fans pray for Rich Forever to hit streaming for its tenth anniversary next month, they will be busy with Ross’ eleventh studio album, Richer Than I Ever Been, which drops on Friday (December 10).
