#Restaurant owner murdered while delivering wines in Mexico City

A French restaurant owner and his colleague were murdered while delivering expensive fine wine in Mexico City, police said — in a killing which has sparked protests over violent crime in the city.

Baptiste Lormand, 45, who owns three restaurants in the upscale Polanco neighborhood, and his business partner, Luis Orozco, were delivering a shipment of high-end wines Thursday when they vanished, BBC reported.

The wines were believed to be worth around $25,000, the outlet reported.

The missing pair’s bodies were found Saturday by a dirt road in a southern district of the capital, prosecutors said.

It’s unclear what their causes of death were.

Mexican authorities have arrested three people in connection to the murders — and “a significant number of bottles of high-end alcohol and weapons were seized,” according to Mexico City’s Attorney-General Ernestina Godoy.

The identities of the suspects haven’t been released.

Mexico City Police Chief Omar García Harfuch added that everything pointed “towards the perpetrators wanting to steal his merchandise,” the BBC reported.

Hundreds of people protested Monday in the wake of the killings to demand justice and more security in the nation, which is on track to see murders hit a record high this year.

“I think there’s now a great responsibility on society and the authorities for us to restore order,” Polanco resident Israel Reyes.
