#Rep. Donalds says there’s ‘plenty of proof’ for Biden impeachment probe

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, said there is “plenty of proof” to lead to an impeachment of President Biden.

“I think there’s plenty of proof there. We’re going to tie all this down,” Donalds told CNN’s Manu Raju. “So, I think it’s pretty likely that we are moving toward impeachment, but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We want the evidence to speak for itself.”

His comments come shortly after the House voted to formally approve the impeachment inquiry into Biden. Lawmakers voted 221-212 along party lines to approve the resolution to authorize the inquiry in a step that Republicans hope will move the investigation into a more aggressive stage.

The resolution makes the inquiry official after being underway for several months. It examines the Biden family’s personal and business finances and takes a look at the Department of Justice’s probe into Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his failure to pay taxes.

Hunter Biden arrived at the Capitol Wednesday to defy a subpoena to appear for a deposition after weeks of back and forth about whether he would appear in a public or private setting.

The approval of the resolution Wednesday given the House GOP’s slim majority is notable since pursuing impeachment could be risky for those who oversee swing seats, The Hill previously reported.

Raju asked Donalds about members who represent vulnerable districts. The Florida lawmaker said it was fear-mongering and “isn’t about safe district and marginal districts.”

Donalds then said the investigation is critical to pushing members who may be on the fence about formally impeaching the president. He said the vote Wednesday “allows us to finish our investigation.”

Donalds’s comments come as Raju also spoke with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) Wednesday, who said he has not seen evidence that would make Biden guilty.
