#Rebirth to Release Special Visual & Animated Short

The production team for the Nights with a Cat anime series has released a special visual and 1-minute animated short, in collaboration with the upcoming Gamera: Rebirth anime. The latter will begin streaming on Netflix on September 7, 2023. 

The visual showcases the main feline protagonist, Kyuruga, depicted as a giant kaiju, walking the streets in Gamera cosplay. This is expanded in the anime short, where Kyuruga wreaks havoc on the street. 

Season two of Nights with a Cat first premiered on March 8, 2023 and is streaming on YouTube. The first season aired on Japanese television from August 4, 2022 to September 22, 2022. It was then streamed on YouTube from October 12, 2022 to January 11, 2023.

The production staff for the second season includes Minoru Ashina (Isekai Quartet) as director and screenwriter, Minoru Takehara (Isekai Quartet) as character designer and animation director, and Kana Utatane (Akebi’s Sailor Uniform) as music composer. Studio PuYUKAI is in charge of the animation production for the series. 

Meanwhile, the voice cast includes Satoshi Hino as Fuuta-kun, Atsumi Tanezaki as Pii-chan, and Ayahi Takagaki as Kyuruga.

The anime is based on the web manga series by Kyuryu Z, which was first serialized on the author’s Twitter account, before being picked up by Kadokawa for publication in Comic Bridge in December 2019. Five tankoubon volumes have been released as of July 2023. 

Yen Press releases the Nights with a Cat manga in English and describes the synopsis as:

When Fuuta comes home tired at night, all he wants to do is spend time with his new cat. All the mysterious habits and mannerisms of house cats are carefully reproduced in this relaxed and cute comedy about living with an adorable furball!
