Rascal Does Not Dream Light Novels To Get Short Story Collection in July

The Rascal Does Not Dream light novel series, which was released from 2014 to October 2024, is getting a short story collection titled Seishun Buta Yarou wa Beach Queen no Yume o Minai+ (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Beach Queen). It will be released in Japan on July 10 JST this year.

The volume contains the stories Seishun Buta Yarou wa Beach Queen no Yume o Minai, Seishun Buta Yarou wa White Christmas no Yume o Miru, and Seishun Buta Yarou wa Tropical Summer no Yume o Minai. The last one is a newly written work created for this release (Beach Queen was originally released as special content with the first Blu-ray, while White Christmas was a freebie for cinema attendees who watched Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out in its first week).

The Rascal Does Not Dream series, which is published under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Bunko label, follows protagonist Sakuta Azusagawa as he encounters girls with supernatural problems. Yen Press describes the first volume as:

Bunny girls do not live in libraries. This is simply common sense. And yet, that’s exactly where Sakuta finds one in the wild. More bewildering is who the bunny girl is: Mai Sakurajima, a girl one year older than Sakuta, famous at their school for her acting career even though she’s currently on break. To top it all off, it seems like no one else in the library can see Mai at all, no matter what she does or…wears. Wanting to find out more about this mystery and maybe get a little closer to this beautiful upperclassman in the process, Sakuta launches an investigation to discover why an unforgettable bunny girl keeps becoming totally invisible.

An anime adaptation began in 2018 with the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai TV series. It was followed by three movies: 2019’s Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl and 2023’s Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid. The anime is now tackling Sakuta’s “University Arc” with the upcoming Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus.

The light novel series has also inspired manga adaptations of its volumes.
