“The First Slam Dunk Now 85th Highest-Grossing Film in Japan, Suzume at 27th”

The First Slam Dunk has become the 85th highest-earning movie in Japan with a total gross of 7.685 billion yen (~US$58.14 million), while Makoto Shinkai‘s Suzume is currently placed 27th with a gross of 12.13 billion yen (~US$91.79 million).

Kogyo Tsushin reported that The First Slam Dunk, which placed first in the weekend box office ranking for the sixth week in a row, earned 481 million yen (~US$3.64 million) and drew in 319 thousand moviegoers over the recent Friday and weekend period. As for Suzume, which has remained in 2nd place on the weekend ranking since The First Slam Dunk entered the court, it made 375 million yen (~US$2.83 million) and attracted 281 thousand moviegoers. 

Suzume is only 30 million yen (~US$227 thousand) away from tying with the gross of Aladdin, the current 26th highest-grossing movie in the country.

At fourth place on the weekend ranking is the Detective Conan: Ai Haibara Monogatari ~Kurotetsu no Mystery Train~ compilation movie, which premiered on January 6 and has earned 246 million yen (~US$1.86 million) in total so far. Meanwhile, the adaptation of Lonely Castle in the Mirror placed seventh.
