“#Psaki hurls first pitch at Nationals Park day after shooting”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki threw out the first pitch at Nationals Park on Sunday, one day after a shooting outside the stadium halted the game in the sixth inning.
Video of the moment posted on Twitter by Deputy Press Secretary Chris Meagher, reveals a large number of empty seats at the park.
Psaki, who was scheduled for the honors before the Saturday shooting cleared out the park, stood in front of the pitcher’s mound but managed to make it to home plate — a vast improvement over Dr. Anthony Fauci’s disastrous performance last year.
Fauci’s offering flopped to the ground well wide of home plate in June of last year.
On Friday, the Washington Nationals announced that Psaki would be throwing the first pitch prior to a game between the Nats and the San Diego Padres.
The announcement came in advance of the team’s “William & Mary Day,” which honors the press secretary’s alma mater in Virginia.
On Saturday night, a shooting outside the stadium that left three wounded, including a fan, abruptly cut that game short in the sixth inning, with play resuming Sunday.
