#Portland cops say they were pelted with ball bearings, golf balls

Portland police officers were pelted with “dangerous objects” — including ball bearings, golf balls and potatoes — during another night of riots Monday, cops said.

Protesters marched from a park to the North Precinct just before 10 p.m. and squared off with cops once they arrived, KOIN reported.

Portland police officers and Oregon State troopers guarded the perimeter of the building, which has been targeted before by protesters.

Police issued warnings of arrest over a loud speaker — with protesters shining “bright strobe lights” into officers’ eyes and lobbing items like eggs and water bottles at them, cops said in a news release.

The group chanted and drummed for an hour, holding up shields and umbrellas in front of the line of officers.

At around 11 p.m., cops declared an unlawful assembly and attempted to break up the crowd — which piped Star Wars’ “Imperial March” through a speaker, KOIN said.

One officer who was wearing a face shield was hit in the face with a ball bearing and another suffered a hyperextended elbow during a scuffle. She was treated at a hospital and released.

Other officers had golf balls, rocks and potatoes thrown at them, cops said.

Nine people were arrested on charges including assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer.

Portland has been the scene of violent demonstrations for more than 70 consecutive nights following the police-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in late May.
