“#Pop Smoke Murder Suspect Claims He 'Assaulted' Alleged Shooter After Slaying”
According to Rolling Stone, murder suspect Corey Walker was in a Los Angeles courtroom on Friday (October 15) as his defense lawyer, Christopher Darden, filed a motion to dismiss his murder and robbery charges with the argument Walker “specifically voiced his opposition to any violence before Pop Smoke was fatally shot.”
Darden wrote in the court filing, “It is clear from the evidence that [Walker] did not enter the house, was not armed, and did not personally kill the victim. Moreover, the evidence is clear that the defendant did not share the actual killer’s intent to kill.”
Instead, Walker wanted the alleged shooter to smash a vase over Pop Smoke’s head. Darden added there’s no evidence showing Walker actually entered Pop Smoke’s rented home with a weapon and repeatedly pointed out he wasn’t the shooter.
On the day of Pop Smoke’s death, the suspects allegedly had just one desire — to get their hands on Pop Smoke’s luxury watch.
In May, the New York Daily News reported a detective involved in the case testified in court and revealed the group of teens believed to be responsible for the killing were desperate to steal Pop Smoke’s diamond-studded Rolex. The investigator said they had their eyes on Pop Smoke’s Cuban link chain but only managed to get the watch, which they then resold for a mere $2,000.
Pop Smoke was 20 years old at the time of his death. Although Walker escaped the death penalty, he could still face a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
