#Police shoot, critically injure NYC stabbing suspect

Two plainclothes NYPD narcotics cops fatally shot a man who charged at them with a knife in the Bronx on Thursday night, police said.

The shooting unfolded after a sergeant and detective drove upon a fight between the man and a woman at the intersection of East 233rd Street and Barnes Avenue in Wakefield at about 6:15 p.m., police said.

The man, armed with a large knife, then chased the woman in the street, Chief of Department Terence Monahan said at a press briefing from the scene.

With both officers outside their vehicle, wearing police shields around their necks, they identified themselves and ordered the man to drop the knife, according to Monahan.

“At the time, the man turned around and ran toward the sergeant and the detective while still armed with that large knife,” Monahan said.

The officers then fired five to six shots. They struck the man, but police did not say how many times.

The unidentified man was taken to Montefiore Medical Center and pronounced dead. Both officers were evaluated at a nearby hospital.

Police said they recovered several knives at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene told police the man and the woman, who know each other, had a similar heated argument on Wednesday.

In the first feud, the man threatened to kill her for not calling him, Monahan told reporters.
