“Yen Press Announces 10 New Manga & Manhwa Releases at NYCC 2022”

At its industry panel at New York Comic Con 2022, Yen Press has announced the release of ten new manga and manhwa titles. No specific release date for each title has been revealed as of yet. 

Among the highlights include the manga version of Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, a spinoff manga from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, both the manga and novel adaptation of Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop, and many more. 

Here are the full details on Yen Press’s newest releases


The manga adaptation of the Sugar Apple Fairy Tale fantasy light novels will be released by Yen Press for the first time in English. Original author Miri Mikawa is credited with the story and artist Yozora no Udon provided the artwork. It was first launched in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace monthly magazine on November 4, 2021. One tankoubon volume has been released as of June 2022. 

The series is also inspiring a 2023 television anime series from J.C.Staff and will be streamed by Crunchyroll. 


Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Familia Chronicle Episode Freya is a manga spinoff from the main series, centered on the character Freya. Fujino Omori is credited with the original story and is illustrated by Hinase Momoyama. It was first serialized Square Enix’s Manga UP! online website and app on October 2, 2020. 


A short story collection of the Spy Classroom will also be released, compiling stories that were published between 2021 to 2022. They are written by Takemachi with illustrations by tomari. It will be released under Yen Press’s Yen-On light novel imprint. 

Spy Classroom will also receive a television anime adaptation in 2023 from animation studio Feel


The Witch and the Knight Will Survive is a fantasy manga series written by Dai Chikamoto and illustrated by Gonbee Shinkawa. It was first serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s monthly Young Ace UP magazine on June 24, 2021. One tankoubon volume has been released so far. 


Sasaki and Miyano: First-Years is a novel collection of nine one-shot stories featuring characters of the Sasaki and Miyano series. Each story follows the students in their first year of high school. It was published on March 27, 2020. 

Yen Press has previously licensed the original manga series and the spinoff, Hirano and Kagiura


Yen Press will also release both the novel and manga adaptation of the animated romantic comedy anime film Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop. The novel is written by Kyouhei Ishiguro and the manga is illustrated by Imo Oono. The manga was serialized in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine from November 27, 2019 to March 27, 2021. 


The manga adaptation of the Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon light novels will also be released for the first time in English. Kunieda is providing the artwork for the manga, based on Hirukuma’s original story. It was first launched in Dengeki Daioh monthly magazine on August 27, 2021 and one tankoubon volume has been released as of March 2022. 

The light novels are also inspiring an anime adaptation, with Crunchyroll set to co-produce and stream it on their platform. 


What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim is a manhwa adaptation of Jung-Kyung Yoon’s original 2013 novel of the same name, which also inspired a 16-episode South Korean drama in 2018. The manhwa webtoon is illustrated by Kim Myeongmi and ran on the KakaoPage website from June 28, 2016 to September 19, 2018. Six physical volumes have been released in total. 


Horimiya Memorial Book Page. 100 is a companion fanbook for fans of the original Horimiya manga series. It was published to commemorate the first 100 chapters of the manga and features new original illustrations, storyboards, and much more.
