At Gamescom 2023 we had the opportunity to take a look at the latest DLC for “TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge”. You can find our first impression here.

As couch co-op fans, we were pleased that the co-op hit “TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge” receives new content. With the DLC”Dimension Shellshock” the game was expanded to include two new characters, Usagi and Karai, as well as a roguelike mode.

We were able to play the new mode for a few rounds with the new characters. The principle of the game is quite simple: you fight your way from wave to wave of enemies. Between the waves of opponents you have to choose one of two crystal portals and depending on the portal you receive different power-ups, perks and various arena changes that bring advantages or disadvantages. For example, as a power-up, there is the option of transforming yourself into a final boss from the main game and massacring opponents with your boss skills, or you can use a portal to ensure that spikes come out of the ground during the next wave of enemies – that cause us harm. The latter may be a disadvantage for players, but in return you get more crystals, which are important for the mode.

You get a predefined number of crystals per enemy wave (depending on which portal you choose). Once you have collected enough crystals, you can change the area. Each area is different and very lovingly designed, which you can also see in the small Easter eggs in the background of the map. One of our favorite areas is the 8-bit area. In this, the whole area and the characters are shown in a retro look and everything looks like it is on an old tube television. After each round you play, you level up the characters you have played and can gradually unlock further improvements and character skins (color palettes).

Our conclusion about the Dimension Shellshock DLC

The DLC brings a breath of fresh air to the main game and provides fun with the roguelike mode that invites you to play through more than just a single playthrough. Overall, it left us with a very good first impression and we are excited to see what else the developers have to offer us in the future.

“TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge – Dimension Shellshock” has been available for all current gaming systems since August 31, 2023.
