“#Plan to turn Citi Field into COVID vaccine site up in the air”
The plan to turn Citi Field into a coronavirus vaccine hub this week could strike out in true Mets fashion.
While Mayor de Blasio crowed earlier this month that the city would start administering COVID-19 shots at the perpetually challenged team’s stadium in Queens this week, that plan now appears up in the air thanks to a local supply shortage.
Big Apple Mayor Bill de Blasio crowed nearly two weeks ago that the Queens stadium would start administering up to 7,000 shots daily beginning this week.
But the national vaccine roll-out has been so rife with issues that city and state immunizations have slowed to a crawl — leaving the opening of new Gotham centers at the mercy of the supply chain, de Blasio administration officials told The Post on Sunday.
A Mets rep said he was aware of the potential delay in opening the stadium-turned-vaccine center because of the lack of shots available.
Yankee Stadium in The Bronx also is a planned mass city vaccination site, although officials have to yet to release a timetable on when it might start administering shots.
